Sacred Heart University Irish Dance Ensemble: The Claddagh Dancers
The SHU Irish Dance Ensemble is a high skill level, competitive Irish dance group. Student participate in one credit classes and choreography sessions weekly to learn modern and traditional choreography in both hard and soft shoe. They get to dance in many shows for the University and get the chance to compete in intercollegiate competitions. Many of our Claddagh dancers also still compete on the national and international level. The program focuses on enhancing the skill level of already competitive Irish dancers, and allowing them to continue dance through their college experience. Once accepted into the program, students will enroll in DA 303 (1 credit per semester). Most students that audition and are accepted in the program are eligible to receive a performing arts dance grant in the amount of $2,500/annual and renewable for active participation (some restrictions apply).
