Meet the designer who will work ONE on ONE with our 2018 Winner!

One of the most sought-after costume designer on the planet, Gavin Doherty, will work with this year's winner to collaborate on their dress and see it go from concept to finish. When Gavin was three years old, he saw his mum ironing Celtic transfers onto fabric to later hand-embroider onto his sister's costume. From there, Gavin's interest in Celtic art grew: spending many hours in the library with his father, reading book after book, studying design. With his own pocket-money spent on paints, pastels and art books, Gavin could be found at a young age designing costumes. "I would be in my bedroom drawing designs for costumes, not realising where this would ever take me."

Fast forward to 2018 where Gavin Doherty is at the top of the costume design world. Now, Gavin hopes to give back to those dancers aspiring to become designers too. Through IDM's contest, Gavin is delighted to support and encourage the next generation of designers. "I feel very lucky to have made a career out of something that I love and feel so passionate about."
